By age seven, I knew I was going to become an architectural designer, a Virginia Tech graduate, and an eco-friendly activist. What would you expect when a five year old sneaks into the woodshop to make a simple jewelry box and birdhouse? Or when a six year old sits in front of a tree and corrects the landscaper that the tree he wants to cut down isn’t dead since it’s growing leaves and buds. Or when a seven year old basically announces ‘I’m going to go to Virginia Tech!’ to the entire Tech dining hall.
Sure enough, at 26 years old, the fiery passion to create earthier and zen-like atmospheres through architecture and design only grew.
Fortunately (and at the time, very unfortunately), my series of unemployment and short-term employment of various positions made me doubt and then realize my love for architecture and design as a profession.
